MUIC and CU
First of all, I'd like to say Welcome all, those who are looking for both MUIC and CU information, and maybe need some opinions to support your reasons to come and study in Thailand.
Well, I have to say that MUIC and CU are two great universities to offer you the best exchanging programs. Not like other universities, MUIC has very great atmosphere of English communications, rich of unique and independent culture. As for CU, its main distinct are class mates' dependence and friendly Thai-inter greetings.
To be frankly review about MUIC (mahidol), I have no other choice except to compare Mahidol with Chula, because I have studied in these two universities before. (there are also some other famous universities here also such as, Tharmmasart and Kasetsart university but I don't have any related specific experience, so let's not talk about it)
I'd say it's very definite that MUIC is achieving its best to differentiate in terms of specialization in English language and liberal arts education. Our normal Mahidol university here is very specialized in Medical and science programs, you would know it yourself if you guys were Thai citizens, to get into Medical school of MU is very hard (like hell!) lol and once you get into Medical college, you'd make quite reputation. As for other faculties, they are famous too, but I feel very unfortunate for MU in such a way that they just started expanding this core competency into Arts and management field. Having this kind of disadvantages when people know by heart that CU can offer these programs better, MU's business and art faculty may not very well as much as popular in Thai society that much.
Compare it to Chula, you would face totally different story. First of all, Chulalongkorn university (Chula) is a bit conservative, and very based on Thai traditional culture. You will see this from the old buildings and how systems flow here in Chula. Also, Chula is very well-known for every faculty it is to offer here. This is the place where Thai people know it is the center of the brains, since every faculty require very high scores from different kind of tests just to get in.
Being located in the heart of Siam shopping malls, I have to say that Chula is very blessed. Since it is very convenient to travel, you can just travel to other parts of Bangkok using sky train less than 25 minutes to for example Sukumvit to enjoy your luxury shopping. So, if you want some excitement and want your study here to be filled with lots of fun. Energized it with your stay here along with Thai friends and other foreign exchange students who are willing to take you on-tour anywhere, Chula may be the place for you to come.
Having said all these advantages to Chula, maybe some MU/MUIC alumni might get mad at me lol, so let's say some great things that Mahidol university is best at. Well, I have to say that despite of its distant location (takes around 40 minute to reach Salaya campus from Bangkok), this location has dominant and beauty of its own. The place is filled with new and benignly designed buildings (try to visit Music of college and you'll see!). Once you are here, I can assure you that you would fall in love with cheap and delicious foods offer around the campus. Also, it would be very easy to travel outside Bangkok using university's route. You can go to Kanchanaburi within an hour of time. Kanchanaburi is very preserved in nature and a place where a lot of must visit temples located (checkout photos from this website: Temples in kanchana and more information from this: travel). Moreover, to add in a bit of information, Kanchanaburi is the place where you can cross Thailand's border to Myanmar.
Apart from this, there are universities' services to offer for free. You can take what we call "tram" to get around campus, you can get to Bangkok using what we call "Shuttle Bus" for free. Also, great and friendly thai students would be more delighted in guiding you throughout the campuses. We have so many campuses, 3 are in Bangkok, 1 in Salaya and another one in Kanchanaburi. Noted if you were to actual come here, why not try to visit our prestigious established Medical college located opposite side to Thammasart univerisity (Thaprachan), this is located beside Choapraya river, where a lot of original Thai history established here.
Next is the thing I should not avoid to write. This is the international atmosphere these two places have to offer. For MUIC, as like I said it is already specialized in English, you can find very few students who can not perfectly communicate in English. MUIC is considered as one of the faculties, or what people in Mu think of us = very separated from other faculties. In other words, we do things on our own or independently (we have our own clubs and activities, events etc.) and it's very hard that you will find the collaborative events between MUIC and normal MU faculty. This makes MUIc students to know very few students from other faculties. However, if you want to join normal program's activities, you can join, there are so many ranges of activities, for ex. MU guide, MU AIESEC, and MU rakkeaw (good as well).
As for Chula, they don't internationalized their campus (but i think will start it soon?). Instead, they have two kind of programs to offer, English program and Thai program. To enroll in either english program or Thai program does not make much of any difference except language delivery during classes, the programs will be considered as one faculty. So whenever they have clubs or activities jointly between the faculties for example: sports tradition, the students will rather have higher chance of meeting new students who are not in their classes, or at least know their classmates better. English program has unique feature of its own, based on my understanding if it is to call English program, Thai students who study materials as English still have to take Thai language and communications while if it is to called international program like MUIC, Thai students don't have to take Thai language, they will hold English as native language and allow students to take second foreign language. This may be the key distinct features that these two universities offer when taken a look at international atmosphere.
To fully answer the question which university has the best international atmosphere, I'd say the final "temptation" is truly based upon people. For me I love both atmosphere of these two colleges. They are very well at conducting classes in English as I were to study off shores. The society is very friendly and very warm welcome all any foreigner to their college.
